For our family, the Puja has always been about more than the rituals. Ma Durga comes home to all of us, and alongside her worship we try to share the joy of the festival with the people around us.
Please note: cloth distribution and the free medical check-up camp are each a one-day event during the Puja, and they are not held every year. To know whether one is planned, please contact us.
Cloth distribution
In Bengal, new clothes for the Puja, notun jama, are one of the festival's happiest traditions. Not every family can afford them. Our cloth distribution, held on a single day during the Puja, is a small way of making sure more people can welcome Ma in something new.
Depending on the year and on what is most needed, a distribution can include:
- Sarees for women, and dhotis or panjabis for men
- Clothes for children
- Shawls or blankets, when warm clothing is what people need most
The aim is to reach those who need it most, such as elderly people living alone, families going through hard times, and children.
We believe clothes should be given with dignity: new, in the right size, and suited to the person who receives them.
Free medical check-up camp
In villages, many people put off seeing a doctor because of the cost or the distance. Our free medical check-up camp brings that care closer to home.
At our one-day camp, a doctor saw every visitor and treated a wide range of concerns, from general health problems to skin conditions and hair fall.
Free medicines were provided to every visitor.
If you are coming to a future camp:
- Bring your previous prescriptions and medical reports.
- Bring a list of the medicines you take.
- Come early, as camps can get busy.
